Tom Newton-Lewis is the Director of Health Systems Innovation at FHI360. Tom brings fifteen years’ experience of applying systems thinking approaches to the improvement of health systems performance and resilience. Tom has been the Principal Investigator/Project Director on a wide range of projects providing analytical and advisory support to stakeholders in low- and middle-income countries. In particular, Tom led a suite of grants from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to explore the role of “informal institutions” – the values, norms, incentives, relationships, power dynamics and cultures that impact on people’s behavior and interactions – in health system performance, and what it implies for health systems strengthening, capacity building, and technical assistance. Tom was previously the Chief of Strategy and Business Development at Oxford Policy Management.
