Bruno Bouchet is the Director of the Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) division of FHI 360, where he leads and coordinates the application of quality improvement (QI) to health systems strengthening and the development of HSS capacities across FHI 360 departments and health programs.

Previous experience

Before joining FHI 360, Bouchet was the regional advisor for primary health care of the Health Systems Department of the Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Organization (WHO), advising 53 Member States to improve the quality of integrated primary care systems. From 2002 to 2005, as the Regional Director for Quality of the ZdravPlus health sector reform project in Central Asia under John Snow Inc. (JSI), Bouchet established the first evidence-based medicine center in Uzbekistan, managed three QI projects and developed the national quality policy of Kyrgyzstan.

Before that, Bouchet provided technical assistance to multiple quality improvement and systems strengthening projects as Associate Director for Africa of the USAID-funded Quality Assurance Project (QAP 2), under University Research Corporation (URC). Prior to joining the Quality Assurance Project, Bouchet designed the health development policy of the French Ministry of Cooperation in East Africa and supported the health sector reform design in Chad with the World Health Organization.

Bouchet has conducted more than 120 technical assistance missions in developing countries, with a focus on Quality and Health Systems and has spent 12 years in the field (Chad, French Guyana, Uganda and Uzbekistan) improving health care and managing public health programs. He is the author and co-author of numerous documents and articles on quality assurance, quality Improvement and systems strengthening.

He received his Doctorate in Medicine from Bordeaux University in France, and has a Masters of Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Bouchet is fluent in French and English, with a basic knowledge of Spanish and Russian.
