Berhane Gebru is an expert in ICT4D and a researcher who is currently serving as FHI 360’s TechLab Programs Director and interim director of the department. His expertise and interest are primarily in the development and deployment of data systems, mobile health, digital technology for information dissemination, digital literacy, digital inclusion and social network analysis.

Over the past 15 years, he successfully led more than 70 projects in 40 countries involving the development and deployment of ICTs to strengthen health and education systems, build entrepreneurial capacity of individuals and small businesses, increase the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of electronic data collection, analysis, and use, and improve productivity of small-holder farmers. Throughout his career, he has led award-winning projects from inception to implementation, including the Climate Change Adaptation and ICTs that was honored with the prestigious United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change’s Momentum for Change Lighthouse Activities Award (2015) and the Mobile Health Information System that received the International Telecommunication Union’s 2015 World Summit on the Information Society award.

Gebru has a Master of Science in Geophysics from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia.
